A evolução das tecnologias de informação e da comunicação impõe uma redefinição do espaço de trabalho. Hoje é mais rápido enviar um e-mail do que uma carta por correio. Cada vez menos será o trabalhador a deslocar-se ao trabalho, e cada vez mais será o trabalho que virá até ao trabalhador. Trabalhar a partir de casa parece ser cada vez mais a hipótese certa numa altura em que a flexibilidade se tornou num dos assuntos na ordem do dia. O mundo assiste hoje à integração e à implementação de novos meios que permitem uma maior rapidez e eficácia na troca de informação.
O acesso a redes dentro e fora das empresas, a videoconferência em rede local, a utilização partilhada de documentos em tempo real e a redistribuição de chamadas telefónicas são alguns exemplos destas novas tecnologias.
As novas tecnologias de comunicação trouxeram enormes vantagens aos mais diversos sectores da sociedade. Podemos verificar o quanto ajudou no processo de recuperação da informação através das bases bibliográficas em CD-ROM e on-line, como também na obtenção do próprio conteúdo desejado. Os periódicos electrónicos retratam uma parcela desse avanço tecnológico, apresentando vantagens e desvantagens tanto na sua forma “física” como nas bases que os disponibilizam. O objectivo desta apresentação é relatar as nossas experiências e considerações sobre essa nova modalidade de publicação.
Hoje existem diversos “sites” na Internet que disponibilizam periódicos electrónicos. Neste cenário, encontramos uma grande variedade de interfaces, que, por vezes, comprometem os resultados das pesquisas, uma vez que as dificuldades encontradas pelos usuários para realizar uma pesquisa bibliográfica são elementos desenregelantes e geradores de buscas ineficientes ou mesmo incorrectas. É compreensível que vários factores concorram para que haja tamanha diversidade e mesmo mudança de interface nos sites de busca bibliográfica, pois nessa era globalizada em que estamos inseridos, tudo parece mudar muito rapidamente. A própria Internet aparece como factor desencadeante principal de tantas mudanças, onde se percebe quase que uma “anarquia controlada”. Os sites acompanham as tendências tanto de design como de objectivos específicos.
É preciso que os profissionais da informação estejam atentos às constantes mudanças que se operam neste campo em constante actualização.
Tecnologia: não se pode viver sem ela.
Quem diria que um telefone, um rádio, uma televisão e até um computador se transformariam em equipamentos tão portáteis capazes de serem carregados no bolso? A tecnologia evolui cada vez mais e quando o consumidor pensa que não há mais como inovar, eis que surge uma tecnologia mais moderna. São os telemóveis, os computadores portáteis, as televisões de alta resolução com ecrãs de plasma, os aparelhos de MP3, as impressoras, as câmaras de filmar e as máquinas fotográficas digitais, os aparelhos electrodomésticos e os automóveis que contém cada vez mais funções, diminuem o tamanho e aumentam a sua utilidade, justamente para facilitar a vida do usuário.
Essas novas tecnologias estão anexadas ao computador, que revolucionou todas as formas de comunicação e produção. Na era digital, o indivíduo pode partilhar a mesma tecnologia independentemente do local onde estiver: em casa, no trabalho, em viagem, nas compras ou realizando transacções bancárias. A evolução tecnológica estará sempre em constante evolução e aperfeiçoamento. Isso faz com que muitos questionem: há como sobreviver sem utilizar a tecnologia? Segundo os especialistas, a resposta é não. “Não podemos viver sem ela. A utilização dessa tecnologia já está implementada na cultura de todos os povos. Há realidades diferentes de acesso aos novos equipamentos, mas eles estão em todos os lugares. Por mais que alguém diga que não convive directamente com essa tecnologia é preciso lembrar que o simples acto de ir ao banco, pagar um estacionamento com um bilhete magnético ou cartão electrónico, usar o telefone, ver televisão, sair à rua e expor-se às dezenas de câmaras que nos monitorizam em toda parte, insere qualquer cidadão nesse mundo moderno.
Eu neste momento não me imaginaria a viver sem todas estas novas tecnologias, seja em casa, no trabalho, na rua…

The other side of the internet

I am constantly reminded that everything around me is technology. The internet, for example, is something very important and useful. Nowadays, I can’t live without it, because I need it in my place of work.
In the other day, internet went down. I was doing a project and I needed the internet to do it. That project was to be delivered in the next day and without internet I couldn’t finish it. So I had to go out and meet me with one friend of mine that gave me a book with all information I needed and some help too. The advantage of all of this was the fact that I met with my friend and got out of my office.
I give you one advice: The internet is a great invention but our life isn’t just that. Go out and have some fun instead of staying in front of your pc.

The importance of the Internet in people's lives

The world suffers constant transformations at all levels: technological, educational, social, economic and political. Each new generation, causes different ways of relating and living in society, which is altered and indeed this year, lives up a generation with access to vast information than past generations did not.
In fact, this generation has been marked by the revolution of a different means of communication which is capable to provide any information at any time, and allow treatment of certain issues: the internet. By the end of the century, perhaps the internet will be present in everyday’s life for all people, taking a place of leisure, commerce and services, education, research, communication, entertainment and, as I mentioned before, the information itself.
This new tool of communication exists to allow the interaction with other people from different cultures, enabling everybody to share opinions and suggestions by using the e-mail, forums and social networks.
Nowadays, you can communicate with people who are in another part of the planet through the use of Messenger, social networking, email, internet phone (like Skype). Thus, people can use these tools to disclose their business, advertisements and articles or other matters they consider relevant.
The Internet helps a lot to learn, allowing development of critical thinking of people. Discussion forums are a valuable resource where you can exchange views, ideas and experiences. Regarding social networks, they are providing friendships among people from different parts of the world, which can communicate, express and share their knowledge and ideas with other individuals. In addition, the e-mail has become one of the most important tools on the Internet, as allowed to provide learning resources, with speed in sending and receiving messages. Thus came largely replace traditional mail, which is a major breakthrough for the environment, as much paper is spared, and thus avoids the intensive deforestation.
In conclusion, the Internet enabled the exchange of different views and realities, and helped people to get answers to your everyday’s problems.

It now allows the interconnection between different parts of the planet earth, and makes available to its users most-modern and efficient technological resources, ranging from several courses online access to latest information news and also the various social networking engines buca. The point of change is the integration of markets in a "global-village", operated by large international corporations. States gradually abandoning tariff barriers to protect their production from competition from foreign goods and open up to trade and international capital.
This process has been accompanied by an intense revolution in information technology - phones, computers and television. Information sources are also due to standardize worldwide and the growing popularity of pay-TV channels and of the Internet. This makes the consequences of globalization beyond the bounds of the economy and begin to cause a certain cultural homogeneity among countries. "

Health benefits of exercise

Regular exercises can help to protect us from many diseases, can improve our mood and help us to better manage stress.
Experts recommend that we do twenty or thirty minutes of aerobic activity, three or more times a week. However, if we are unable to do this level of activity, we can gain substantial health benefits by accumulating thirty minutes or more moderate-intensity physical activity a day, at least five times a week.
If we have been inactivity for a while, may we want to start with less strenuous activities as walking or swimming. Beginning at a slow pace will allow us to become physically fit without straining our body. Once we are in better shape we can gradually make strenuous activity.

Technological evolution

Technological evolution has become one of the biggest keys to the global communications, we can communicate all over the world. I have my godfather living in France and he doesn’t come to Portugal very often so we talk almost every week by the social network MSN, but his job moved away to other place and now he doesn’t have much time to spend on the internet so he writes me e-mails.
I use a lot of programs on the internet because I need to search music and music lyrics, to search music I use the www.youtube.com site and then I copy the URL to the program aTube Catcher to transform a video WMV to MP3 audio, then I need the music lyric, so I search at the site www.vagalume.com, usually I get what I need.
Once I bought a DVD player and it didn’t play all DVD’s that I put in it, so I went to the store and I asked them what was going on, they kept the DVD player and three months later I went to the store again, they didn’t call me to say if the DVD player was fixed already, I told them that I didn’t want that DVD player anymore and that I wanted to change to another one. They said yes, I changed it to a new one, until now it is working alright, I hope it doesn’t give me more problems.
